Saltum beach (Saltum strand, the word for beach in Danish is the same as the word for beach in Afrikaans) is situated on the furtherest North Western part of Denmark.

The beach is a popular summer holiday destination with a wide beach, bounded by ocean and sand dunes. Access to the beach by vehicle is allowed.

So why is this beach significant?

  • This beach is an official road, the E130. It is a 15 km long stretch of beach that can be accessed from various places from the main road network. All the rules of the raod apply to these beach roads.

  • Road signs along the dunes help you find your home or holiday accommodation.
  • In winter the prevailing onshore wind often restricts access to the beach. This strong prevailing wind creates a storm surge that piles the sea up on to the beach.
  • The storm surge may contribute to the the wide, flat, nature of the beach as sea sand is transported by the storm surge, and then dumped as the (‘flow of’) sea losers energy.
